Many of the animals transported from the Four Corners Area need medical attention prior to becoming adoptable.
We see a wide variety of medical ailments in our animals. Learn about some of the more common ailments we encounter on a regular basis.

Broken Limbs
ButtonWe regularly see animals with broken or sprained limbs. In order to treat animals with these types of injuries, we need to have x-rays and then work with specialists to provide the best treatment.

Puppies with Parvovirus
Help us treat puppies with parvo!Unfortunately, many of the puppies transported from animal control locations have been exposed to parvovirus. Parvovirus is an extremely contagious and oftentimes fatal virus. Soul Dog is committed to providing the best care possible to these puppies. Parvo is very expensive to treat with the in-house care totaling around $1,000/puppy and $4,000/puppy when hospitalized at local emergency clinics.

Canine Transmissible Venereal Tumor (TVT)
Help stop the spread of cancerous TVTs!Transmissible venereal tumors (TVT) are tumors that arise from the dysregulated growth of cells called histiocytes. TVTs are malignant (cancerous) tumors. Different from other cancers, TVTs are transferrable between dogs.

Dental Trauma
Help offset dental costs for dogs like Entree!Whether it be from eating rocks or being kicked in the face, some dogs arrive at our shelter with varying degrees of dental trauma. We believe the dog photographed (named Entree) was kicked in the face and left on the top of a mountain pass. He and dogs like him, will require extensive dental procedures that are quite costly.

Donate to help us treat mange!Mange is caused by parasitic mites. While mange is not a life-threatening illness, when left untreated it can lead to additional infections and issues. We use various flea/tick treatments to treat for these nasty mites.

Skin Wounds
Donate to help heal animals with skin wounds!Oftentimes our animals face a wide array of obstacles in their daily life. Unfortunately, wounds are quite common. We have seen animals with bite wounds, gashes from fences, and even neck lesions from spending their entire lives chained up. These animals often require antibiotics and special treatment.
