DOG WALKING
Just about the best way to help the dogs that reside in our shelter is to spend one-on-one time with them and give them some much-needed exercise. The Milers Club is a great way to keep our dogs in shape and their leash manners sharp, while giving the walker a great workout! It’s a win-win! There are trails and a scenic walkway a short-distance from the shelter that provide a great reprieve for our dogs that are cooped up in runs for the majority of the day.
Many of our dogs are wonderful on leash and many of our dogs have next to no leash experience. Dog walks are not a part of the culture on the tribal lands where our dogs come from, so often they have literally no experience. Rez dogs are incredibly smart and adaptive and they pick up walking on leash quickly. We request that our walkers use martingale-type walking devices, gentle-leaders, thick rope-leads or harnesses to keep our animals safe and the walking experience positive for both dog and walker.
SDR CANINE MILERS CLUB PROGRAM
The Milers Club is an incentive-program that further rewards our walkers (nothing tops the good karma that our walker’s get from giving their time to a shelter dog, but we like to incentive further) with levels to be attained and small tokens of our appreciation as such levels are attained. We have premeasured routes that can be used for our walkers that don’t have distance tracking devices on phones, watches or fitbits. We ask that you sign in each day and log miles walked on a daily basis.

Soul Dog T-shirts, durable, custom-made rope leads favored by our staff, Soul Dog notebooks, mugs, grocery bags and other swag, and access to our employee lounge with cold drinks.
DOG WALKING TIMES:
Seven days a week, from 10:00am to 4:00pm.
Volunteers under 16 must be supervised by a guardian over 18 at all times.
